The Big Ten Conference visits Selma and Montgomery

Preston Love, Jr. will join the Nebraska delegation and will provide expert historical context to all participants for the Big Ten Conference’s initiative.

The Big Ten Conference will return to Selma and Montgomery, Alabama from July 14 – July 16 2023. The Conference will continue to offer an immersive experience for over 100 attendees including student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. The initiative is called the BIG LIFE SERIES: From Selma to Montgomery

This year’s trip will include representation from all 14 Big Ten member institutions, including members of the Joint Group with an intention of making an impact across the Big Ten Governance Structure. As part of this year’s trip student-athletes from Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) will attend to be part of the experience as the Conference looks to expand the dialogue on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Through the Big Life Series, student-athletes are empowered to become better leaders and inspire change in their respective communities. Attendees will participate in a variety of experiences including recreating the 1965 Bloody Sunday march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge and visited museums in Montgomery to add further historical context on the Civil Rights Movement.
